This time I had the pleasure of interviewing Neblio team. A blockchain platform fully focused on simplicity and scalability.
How would you describe the main pillars of the project?
Neblio’s core pillars are simplicity, API libraries in 8+ languages, and the NTP1 protocol. Our ultimate goal is that a manager at a large or small company, could simply send an email to one of his engineers, asking them to start prototyping a blockchain project. And that engineer, with no blockchain experience, and no matter what his favorite programming language is, is able to quickly and nearly effortlessly use the Neblio APIs, SDKs, and documentation on Neblio University, build a distributed application on our blockchain. That is our ultimate goal, and we’re almost there.
About the team and supporters, what are your strengths?
The Neblio team believes in under promising and over delivering. The NTP1 protocol was originally scheduled for late 2018, but was delivered nearly a year early. We have strong technical talents and all work well together, enabling us to deliver more in less time while keeping our team lean, focused and dedicated.
Thinking about the future, do you have any roadmap with relevant upgrades or partnerships?
As we continue to fine tune the platform that we have built, steadily adding new features, we are shifting some of our focus to accelerating adoption of the Neblio Platform, spreading awareness of what we have built, and lowering the barrier to entry for others to use what we have developed. We are constantly looking for opportunities and have had early discussions with US Universities that want to use Neblio to teach blockchain development in their Computer Science courses, commercial companies looking to implement blockchain for internal and external projects, and blockchain incubators seeking to advise their clients on the appropriate blockchain platform to get started with. We encourage all considering or interested in Neblio, no matter your use case, to reach out, we’d love to hop on a call and discuss if and how Neblio could be the right fit for your project.
What’s the added value of Neblio in comparison with other competitors ?
Simplicity. Blockchain is a specialized field that often requires specialized talent. Simplicity is not something that can be easily added to an already complex system. Neblio was built from the ground up to be as simple and as intuitive as possible. For example, Neblio Orion’s intuitive interface allows for NTP1 token creation in simply 2 clicks, no code or technical knowledge required.
What are the use cases you are looking to cover?
Neblio is a generic platform that can cover most of the use cases for blockchain technology today. Healthcare records management, supply chain management, secure identity issuance and management, event ticketing, etc. All of these use cases and many more are covered by issuing NTP1 tokens that store metadata. We are currently writing several case studies for Neblio University describing how EXACTLY to build prototype apps in several of these use cases and more on the Neblio Platform.
How are you aiming to provide scalability to your service?
Neblio is in a solid scaling position today. We have 5x the transactions per second of Bitcoin (pre-segwit). And those are NEBL transactions, NTP1 at the protocol level does allow for batching of multiple NTP1 transactions into a single NEBL transaction and that is an area of scale for us in the future as NTP1 increases in popularity.
We then have a few knobs we can turn quickly and effortlessly to dramatically increase NEBL transaction scaling:
1) Drop the block time from 120 seconds to 30 seconds (4x increase in tps) (can also go lower)
2) Raise the block size from 1MB to 8MB (8x increase in tps)
These are changes that could be made and rolled out in a matter of days if necessary.
Beyond that increasing capacity becomes more and more difficult. I do believe that additional scaling will be required for Neblio, likely in 2020 or 2021 and are testing several ideas in this area to see what is best for Neblio long term.
Evaluation of the current scenario for Neblio and the blockchain industry.
There is a lot of great work being done and a lot of great technology being developed by a handful of projects in this space. Unfortunately, there are even more projects that tweet more times than they write lines of code. Fancy whitepapers, claims of 10 million transactions per second, and other absurd claims from projects without even a testnet should be a red flag. We hope that users eventually begin to see through the hype, and see projects for what they really are, especially when choosing a platform for their first, or next, blockchain product.
